Make Use of Android Hardware Buttons

Posted by

Android Hardware ButtonsAt long last, Corona SDK developers can now make use of the hardware buttons that Android users have long been accustomed to using with most of their other apps!

I won’t divulge all the details here, because you can see for yourself in the new /SampleCode/Hardware/KeyEvents sample, but in short, you can now control the following hardware buttons on Android devices:

  • Volume up/down (on the side of most devices)
  • Back, menu, and search (along the bottom of most devices)
  • Directional pads and trackballs (only available on some devices)

The only hardware buttons you cannot control are (obviously) the home and power buttons. See the key events documentation for more information.

This exciting new functionality has been available since Daily Build 569, but of course, Daily Builds are only available to subscribers. ;-)

Is the Simulator going to be updated to allow keys to be pressed on my keyboard, to test these events? That would be very helpful :)
